The work at height regulations 14 years on: has it been a success?

Hi guys,

Did you see our new Blog? Here’s a taster.

As their name suggests, The Work at Height Regulations 2005 are a set of legal requirements which must be followed by all workers and workplaces where work is being carried out at height. They were introduced as a measure to help reduce injuries and deaths caused by falls from height at work.

Falls from ladders and raised work surfaces are one of the most common causes of worker deaths in the country. Despite progress in health and safety practices and regulation in the UK, falls from height are the single most common cause of fatal accidents at work. In 2017/2018, falling from height was responsible for 35% of all work-related deaths. This is significantly higher than the second most common cause of death at work, being hit by a moving vehicle, which accounted for 26% of deaths.

Five reasons why a mobile scaffold tower is the best way to work at height

Hi guys,

Check out our new Blog! Here’s a taster.

Mobile scaffold towers combine the best features of a number of other pieces of equipment designed for working at height. Where the conventional extension ladder excels at providing a minimal amount of added height, but at the same time lacks stability, mobile scaffold towers can do both. Likewise, where stepladders are great at providing a stable platform upon which to work, but generally lack significant height, mobile scaffold towers can do both.

If you haven’t used a mobile access tower before, there are a number of reasons to consider making the change from more conventional height access equipment. Below we’ll run through five reasons why a mobile scaffold tower is the best way to work at height.

When to use podium steps vs when to use stepladders

Hi Guys,

Have you made sure to check out our recent blog? We have shared a little part of it here.

To the untrained eye, podium steps and stepladders may look the same. They’re both commonly used in work situations to provide users with the added height which is often required to get the job done. But, when you take a closer look at both of them together, the differences between the two become more apparent.

As with pretty much all tools or pieces of equipment, form follows function. What may seem like small, insignificant differences in the design of stepladders and podium steps, are actually the result of a thoroughly intentional design process. Every feature is there for a reason.

Safety difference between stepladders and podium steps

Hi All,

Do you know the safety difference between stepladders and podium steps? If you don’t then we have provided a great blog to till you all about it.

Stepladders and the podium steps are two specialised pieces of equipment which are ideal for use in work environments which require minimal additional height. Both come in a number of different configurations for use in many specific work situations, and both have their own strengths and weaknesses.

When it comes to safety, are stepladders better than podium steps? And what should you be looking for to tell if the stepladder or podium step you are using is up to the job? Below we’ll discuss some of the safety differences between the two and outline which safety features matter most in different situations.

What are podium steps?

Hi Guys,

We have recently shared a new blog all about podium steps, we would love for you to read it!

Ladders in their various forms are a common sight in workplaces and homes throughout the UK. No matter the job, there’s a ladder which has been designed specifically with it in mind. From the step ladder, which is good for low indoor tasks, to the telescopic ladder, which is highly adaptable for use at many different heights and scaffold towers for jobs that a ladder just doesn’t quite cut.

Despite their adaptability, most conventional ladders are somewhat lacking when it comes to safety features, making them unsuitable for use in more challenging work situations.

What is a tower scaffold?

Hi Guys,

Have you made sure to read our latest blogs?

There are many different types of climbing equipment, each specialised with different uses in mind. The humble ladder comes in many forms, and you’d be hard pressed to find any tradesman without one of some kind.

However, when it comes to heavy-duty, on-site applications, standard ladders often aren’t enough. Besides the fact that most of them can’t reach all that high, they are too instable to be used in tandem with heavy equipment and are often not strong enough to hold a substantial amount of weight.

When should a mobile scaffolding tower be inspected?

Hello to All,

Have you read our latest blog? You can read it now. Below is the introduction to the blog.

As one of the most integral pieces of equipment on any work site, scaffolding is something that all workers should always be able to depend on. Scaffolding allows workers to perform all manner of tasks at heights which would otherwise be out of reach. It is this height factor which also makes scaffolding one of the most important items to inspect for wear, tear and any other defects which could cause it to fail.

At what height do I need a scaffold?

Hello Everyone,

If you haven’t read our recent blog you can read it now. Below is a snippet of the blog to get you started.

Although simple to use and easy to erect, one of the main drawbacks of ladders is their instability at height. Working on a standard ladder, even with additional support, becomes risky once extending above a few metres. Some types of ladder, for example the step ladder, are unsuitable for use at even lower heights, as they are simply not designed with adequate safety features. Weight capacity can also be a problem as it can restrict usage to light, one handed tools when working on standard ladders.

So where do you draw the line between using a ladder and using some form of scaffold?

How to safely use a ladder in the garden

Hello to everyone,

Our new blog is now available to read, How to use a ladder safely in the garden, covers all the health and safety requirements when using a ladder for gardening and outdoors. Below is the introduction to the blog to outline the content.

When using any type of ladder outdoors it is important to do so as shown in the instructions. Climbing a ladder outdoors comes with greater risks and will often be done at greater heights. As a result, there are a number of necessary safety measures and protections which must be kept in mind.
